On Sunday, Mumbai's iconic monorail service came to a halt near Bhakti Park in Wadala area due to power failure for nearly three hours leaving 11 passengers stranded inside. Fire Personnels’ evacuated the passengers safely by using snorkels to bring them down to ground from the elevated track.


Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered an inquiry under Principal Secretary (Urban Development) on the incident.


According to one of the implementing agencies of the project, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the services got disrupted due to tripping of power at around 8 AM hitting two services -one heading towards Bhakti Park station and the other leaving from the same station.


The Chief Minister on his Twitter post said that he was looking into the Mumbai Monorail breakdown incident and an immediate inquiry has been initiated.


The Mumbai Monorail’s Phase I (the first in the country) became operational between Wadala Depot and Chembur in the metropolis in February last year.
