In a tormenting experience, around 35 bus passengers onboard a private Volvo bus were stuck inside the bus for over two hours on Saturday night after the bus’s only door got jammed.

The Volvo bus belonging to Sea Bird Travels on its way to Bengaluru from Goa collided with a truck in the Western Ghats around 25 km from Ankola in North Karnataka and the result was the only door to the bus getting jammed. With the emergency exit also sealed, the passengers were left with no other option than to stay inside the bus.

The passengers alleged that the bus driver was driving rashly from the start of the journey and even after requests from several passengers, the driver refused to reduce the speed. Once the accident took place, the passengers cried for help and stopped truck drivers who managed to break the windowpanes from outside with hammers and evacuated the passengers.

The passengers received no help from the travel agency when contacted regarding the accident instead the company authorities at Anand Rao Circle said that Accidents happen and they can’t do anything. The passengers had to beg a few private buses and had to sit on the floor of the bus to reach Hubballi around 6 am on Sunday.

Transport Commissioner Ramegowda said that as the incident has been reported, an inquiry will be initiated against the travel agency.
