Satire from Pakistan becomes News in India

A satire published on 22nd May by Khabiristan today was mistakenly published as news by many mainstream newspapers in India and UK. This action was largely criticized by many of the online bloggers pointing out an ethnocentric prejudice and a false attempt of sensationalizing news by irrelevant and unethical bases. Khabiristan today is a satirical column and a sub-division of Pakistan today.

The issue went viral on social networking sites since the content was published as news without proper research about the source and authenticity of the content. Most of the news websites that published the content as a hot-news later failed to rectify their mistake disallowing readers to correct the impact created.

The humorous satire about Jamiat Ulema-e-Islami Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman requesting the armed forces of Pakistan to launch a military operation against “jeans-wearing women” all over Pakistan was published by many online newspapers in India as a serious news by re-writing the content of the satire and publishing without the name or tag of the source.
