BSF plants 4 lakh saplings in a day

New Delhi: The on Wednesday made a daunting second-time effort to enter record books by planting four lakh saplings across the country in a single day.

The initiative was launched here by Border Security Force chief D K Pathak at the BSF campus and was later followed by all the formations of the paramilitary force up till the border locations.

BSF personnel, as part of a team effort to enter the LIMCA book of records, planted saplings at all force locations to break its own previous record set in this regard. A senior official said the aim of the country's largest border guarding force is to plant around four lakh saplings at all frontiers, sectors, training institutions, battalion headquarters and border outposts.

"The final numbers will be compiled in a few days," the official said adding the initiative is aimed to conserve the environment. The force had planted an estimated 3.10 lakh saplings as part of the same initiative last year.
