Dehradun (Uttarakhand) : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday welcomed the two-judge bench of the Nainital High Court's order of staying the floor test in the Uttarakhand assembly, saying that the previous single bench order was given in haste.

"We welcome this order. The single bench order was given in haste and things were not clear. There was confusion. We are in majority from the day one, we had 36 MLAs when we went to the Governor and we have 36 MLAs today. We would be able to prove majority in a floor test," BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya told ANI.

He further blamed Harish Rawat and the Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker for chaos in the state, and said that the former was even caught 'red handed' while indulging in 'horse trading'.

Echoing similar views, BJP leader Srikant Sharma said, "The view of bench is important since the earlier order was filled with ambiguities.Because of Congress's internal strife, people of the state have to suffer."

A two-judge bench of the Nainital High Court today stayed the floor test for the Harish Rawat Government in the Uttarakhand assembly, which was scheduled for March 31.

The court will hear the matter on April 6.

Earlier, Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi had urged the court to put a stay on its March 29 order for three days, and hear the matter next week.

Reprimanding the Centre for its hurry in imposing President's Rule in the state, the court asked to it as to why President's Rule was imposed even after the Governor had set a date for the floor test.

When Rohatgi argued that the Centre should be given a chance to explain as to why it had imposed President's Rule in the Congress-ruled state, the court said "a floor test is the best test and correct arena".

The crisis in the hill state erupted on March 18 when nine Congress MLAs rebelled against the Rawat government, resulting in a flip-flop in the passage of the Appropriation Bill.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) met Governor K.K. Paul on the same day and staked claim to form a government.

However, the Centre imposed President's Rule last Sunday, a day before Rawat was supposed to take the floor test in the Assembly.
