Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat for making good use of technology to mitigate the drought situation in their states while addressing the nation through his radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’.
Elaborating on the drought situation in many parts of the country, Modi said he had decided to meet all chief ministers of states individually to discuss future course of action, instead of calling a meeting of all CMs. He lauded the states on the step they have undertaken to mitigate drought and made a special mention of Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat for their efforts.
The Prime Minister stressed that the need of the hour was to conserve water and he asked all citizens to pledge the same.
"I appeal upon citizens to pledge to not waste water in June, July, August, September this year. We feel refreshed splashing water on our faces when we feel tired, this is such a precious gift of god," Modi said.
Modi also discussed a whole range of subjects including the recent state assembly results, RIO Olympics and CBSE results. He congratulated Sarbananda Sonowal who is going to be Assam's new chief minister and praised his work as the sports minister in the state.
applauded the efforts by Assam chief minister designate Sarbanand Sonowal aimed at motivating and inspiring the Indian athletes gearing up for the Rio Olympics 2016 and called on the nation to do the same instead of focusing solely on India's medal tally at the global sports event.
"Whenever the Olympic season descends in the nation, everyone keeps talking about how our medal tally will be. Everyone right now, in their own way, is motivating our athletes, who are gearing for Rio. We should be prepared for both victory and loss and in no way should that affect our determination to motivate our athletes," he said.
Modi, who was addressing the 20th edition of 'Mann Ki Baat' programme, also praised Sonowal for heading to the Netaji Subhash National Institute in Chandigarh where the athletes were training despite the tension of the poll results in Assam.
He said that he was extremely pleased with the efforts by the chief minister designate to ensure that all facilities and training of the athletes was up to mark.
"He took stock of the situation, of how the athletes are being treated, their diet, trainers and training machines. He went into the minute details while making the assessment. I was very pleased with his efforts as the Union Sports Minister," he said.
