New Delhi : Calling on the nation to conserve water and save the environment given the severe water crunch, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the efforts by all states to mitigate the drought conditions. While addressing the nation on Sunday in the 20th edition of Mann Ki Baat, Modi lauded the efforts by all states to mitigate the drought conditions.

Here are the key takeaways from his speech:

  • So many states have undertaken wonderful efforts to mitigate the drought. Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh have used technology very well to mitigate the drought. Jan Bhagidari is also vital. Let us pledge to conserve every drop of water. We feel refreshed splashing water on our faces when we feel tired, this is such a precious gift of god. I appeal to the citizens to pledge to not waste water in June, July, August and September this year
  • June 5 is World Environment Day and the theme decided by UN is zero tolerance to illegal trade of animals. I interacted with the Chief Ministers of 11 states which are facing drought or a probable situation of drought. Some states like Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh have implemented successful water-conserving techniques.
  • I am seeing that football’s popularity across India is increasing. It’s true that there are a lot of challenges when it comes to sports in the nation but we have to encourage and inspire our athletes who are going to participate in the Rio Olympics 2016. We need to create the right atmosphere to encourage athletes. Essential to be positive about our athletes. Let us not worry about the results
  • World is moving towards a cashless society and more technology is being used. The concept of cashless society may turn out to be a success. JAM – Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, Mobile is a move towards becoming a cashless society. We have incorporated Jan Dhan Yojana, Addhaar card and mobile phones to evolve the JAM policy for our citizens
  • Everybody was surprised and noted how a Union minister showed so much concern. In this regard I want to appreciate @sarbanandsonwal. In the poll season he went to NIS Patiala for a surprise visit. There were polls, he was a CM candidate but Sarbananda Sonowal performed his duty as a sports minister. This is a big thing. When we talk about the Olympics we do feel sad at the medal tally
  • Over the last few days, many exam results have been declared. Congratulations to all candidates for their scores. Happy to see girl students shine. Be happy with whatever you have achieved and make new opportunities out of it. For those who did not clear and succeed, life does not stop here. There is a lot to do. Want to request all parents and guardians to accept their children’s results with a sense of satisfaction and motivate them for future. Gaurav from Madhya Pradesh said he scored 89% and I was very happy but he said his family was not happy and they wanted him to get 90%
  • June 21 is International Yoga Day and people around the world have accepted and praised Yoga. Prevention is better than cure. Yoga Day on June 21 is not merely an event, it inspires to include it in our daily routine for 20-30 min. I will join a programme in Chandigarh.
