Assam CM orders repair of all roads in Barak Valley within three months
In what can be termed as a respite to the long-standing ordeal of the people of Barak Valley, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday had directed the Public Works Department to fix its line of action and repair all the roads of Barak Valley within three months.
​Guwahati: In what can be termed as a respite to the long-standing ordeal of the people of Barak Valley, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday had directed the Public Works Department to fix its line of action and repair all the roads of Barak Valley within three months.
Sonowal also asked the department to furnish the estimate of raw materials required for the work which the Forest Department will provide for the purpose.
Sonowal who is on a day long visit to Barak Valley to discuss a gamut of issues with the DCs and SPs of Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi, Dima Hasao, Karbi Anglong and Hamren in Silchar, directed PWD to complete the repair works before he visits Barak Valley after three months to carry out an inspection.
Sonowal asked the National Highway Authority of India to complete the work of mahasadak on a priority basis.
The Assam CM also asked the Principal Secretary of Dima Hasao and DCs of Cachar and Karbi Anglong to take personal initiatives and review the progress of the work on a day-to-day basis.
Emphasising on a fool-proof and flawless NRC, Sonowal asked the DCs to complete the process expeditiously.
Expressing concern over the reported environmental pollution being caused by illegal mining of coal from neighbouring Meghalaya and stacking the same in the districts of Barak Valley, Sonowal asked the Chief Secretary and DCs to take steps to address the problem.
The Assam CM ordered action against illegal coal mining in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts.
Sonowal also issued instruction to take steps against check gates which have failed to realise revenue for the Government.
According top priority in maintaining the sanctity of the international border, he asked DIG, Border to look after the fencing work.
Sonowal called upon the officers and employees fraternity to work as a team for the progress of the State.
Stressing on the highest degree of coordination between the government and the citizens in general, Sonowal called upon everybody to work whole-heartedly towards implementation of government schemes and contribute to peace and progress of the State.
PWD Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, MLAs, Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia, Director General of Police Mukesh Sahay, NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela, Commissioner and Secretary, Home L.S. Changsan and host of senior officers were present at the meeting.
