Hyderabad: The Aam Aadmi Party has demanded the National Investigation Agency (NIA) not to harass Muslim youth by threatening and calling them sympathisers of Islamic State without any evidence.

According to a press release by Professor P L Vishweshwar Rao, Co-convenor, Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday, said that youth were being pressurised to act as witnesses, failing which NIA was threatening to foist false cases against them.

“The Union and the State governments tried foisting cases on Muslims and denying them the basic rights of freedom of movement. The NIA has called these youth and pressurised them to visit their office in Begumpet and sign on papers regarding the recent Hyderabad arrest cases.

The youth have been asked to go to Delhi to record their statement,” he said. Rao said that NIA has even gone to the extent of objecting to browsing of websites relating to Iraq and Syria. “Watching videos is now considered an offence,” he said.

In view of the acquittal of more than 70 persons alleged to have been involved in the Mecca Masjid blast, the NIA should be more cautious and should not demonise the entire Muslim community, he said. The AAP demanded that legal aid should be provided to the arrested youth as per the Indian legal and judicial process of the country.
