Chandigarh: In another damning evidence in the Chandigarh stalking case, a CCTV footage has been recovered of August 4th which clearly shows accused Vikas Barala purchasing alcohol before chasing down Varnika Kunda at midnight.

In the footage, Barala along with his friend Ashish Kumar were seen buying alcohol from a shop located in Chandigarh sector 9, strengthening the victim's claim that they were allegedly intoxicated on the night when the incident took place.

Meanwhile, investigators are still clueless about the whereabouts of the car and the persons accused, police said on Friday.

In the incident which came to light on Wednesday, the 25-year-old woman, who works at an MNC, was returning to her house in Rajiv Nagar on Sunday night when she was stalked by people in a car near Sector 18. Police have filed a case under Section 354 D of the Indian Penal Code at the Sector 14 police station against unknown persons.

"It was revealed after reviewing footage from three CCTV cameras that the woman was chased by a car from Sector 18 area to the Rajiv Nagar turning. But the registration number plate of the car and the number of persons in the car remain unclear," a police officer said.

CCTV footage shows that the woman was tailed by the persons for nearly four km. No police patrol team was there on the stretch.

Reportedly, the victim also called the police control room but no one responded.

"We are investigating facts and will take strict action if some lapse is found," Gurugram's Commissioner of Police Sandeep Khiwar said.
