After hearing a petition seeking implementation of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014 on Monday, the Supreme Court sought the Centre's response in four weeks.

Seeking a direction to the Centre to accord the Special Category Status to AP and implement the AP Reorganisation Act 2014, a public interest litigation (PIL) was moved before the Hyderabad High Court on March 31, 2018.

The petitioner, P Srinivasa Rao, a resident of Swarna village mentioned that the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had assured the Parliament during the discussion on the AP Reorganisation Bill that special category status would be given to the state and urged the court to direct the Centre to implement the Section 6, 90, 92 and 93 of the AP Reorganisation Act.

He even pointed out that the present Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also hold the responsibility to ensure that the promises made to the people of AP are fulfilled.
