The recent outbreak of the Nipah virus has panic settling over all the people of the state due to the increasing death toll.

The fear has mounted to the point that the nurses working in the hospitals treating the patients of this virus are being ostracised. When the nurses working in Peramba Taluk hospital got on a bus after their shift at the hospital, the passengers of the bus protested and got off the vehicle, even the rickshaw drivers have been refusing to drive them.

Medical officer, Dr Jayasree Vasudevan has stated that not only the nurses but any staff working at the hospitals are being isolated in response to the fear surrounding the outbreak.

On another note, the staff at the crematoriums have become more reluctant to cremate the bodies of the dead who died from the virus, one such case is of two workers of the Mavoor Road Crematorium showing reluctance to cremate the body of one Ashokan. A case was registered against the workers at the Nadakkavu police station.
