New Delhi: Delhi Waqf Board chairman Amanatullah Khan on Friday offered to pay Rs 5 lakh in compensation to the kin of eight-year-old madrasa student who died in a scuffle involving minors in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar.

The child, Ajim, died on Thursday after he sustained a head injury following a scuffle between two groups of minor boys. The incident occurred when the students objected to playing by a few local boys on a piece of vacant land in front of the madrasa, police said.

Khan, accompanied by Malviya Nagar MLA Somnath Bharti, visited the madrasa and announced the compensation. "The family of Ajim will be provided Rs 5 lakh compensation by the Delhi government," he said.

Khan said Bharti has promised to construct a boundary wall around the madrasa through his MLA local area development fund. He said the Waqf Board would give a no-objection certificate as the madrasa school belongs to it.

He also claimed that the local police officers have assured him that no slackness will be allowed in probing the death of the student.

Four minor boys, who are suspected to have been involved in the incident, have been apprehended, police said, adding that the accused often used to play at the vacant land in front of madrasa.
