1 dies, 18 hurt as RTC bus rams lorry

Kavali (Nellore): One person died on spot while 18 passengers were injured when the APSRTC bus they were travelling in crashed into a lorry near Maddurupadu of Kavali mandal on Wednesday. Three of the injured received serious injuries. A super luxury RTC bus started from Rajahmundry at 6 pm on Tuesday. The second driver-cum-conductor took over driving from Vijayawada after the first driver was taking rest. The bus after travelling 15 km more due to YSRCP leader Sharmila padayatra, crashed into a stationary lorry from behind. The lorry was parked on the left side of the road at around 4.30 am.

The left side of the bus was totally damaged. Vasim (53), a passenger was crushed to death between his seat and the conductor's berth. Three persons were seriously injured and shifted to Nellore while other 15 injured were admitted in Kavali Area Hospital. Kavali RTC Divisional Manager Satyanarayana rushed to the spot and checked the incident. Later, speaking with The Hans India, he said they will investigate the reasons for the accident. He said if the deceased person was the first RTC Cat Car holder, then RTC will give Rs one lakh compensation immediately and Rs 2 lakhs if the deceased was a renewal card holder. Rs 500 will be paid for ordinary passengers who were injured for hospital expenditures, besides the Corporation has to pay additional amount as per the Court decision, he added.
