Nellore: The movement to keep the State united has entered the 46th day on Saturday in the district and there are so signs of its abatement. The district administration has been paralyzed for the last 30 days and the welfare schemes that were to be implemented have been shelved. With the Samaikyandhra supporters eyeing Central government offices, banks and financial institutions, the functioning of these organizations have been crippled.
With all the employees of the electricity department going on a 72-hour strike, several villages in the Nellore district have plunged into darkness for the last two days. The supporters of Samaikyandhra took out a padayatra from Juvvaladinne, the birthplace of Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu, on Saturday morning and reached Kavali after passing through 40 villages.
Meanwhile, the people of Gudur division were hit hard by the strike as drinking water could not be pumped in 18 villages. In Manubolu village, a transformer exploded cutting off power supply to 200 houses. While the employees of the APSRTC and electricity department conducted vanta-varpu on the streets, the staff of the housing department participated in a relay hunger strike. Students took out a huge rally in Nellore town and the lecturers working in Government Junior colleges came on to the streets in large numbers pledging support to Samaikyandhra.
