New Delhi’s egregious dealing pertaining to the NSCN-K affairs has triggered the cogs of violence to whirr. Media reports and commentators had advised the government not to take it lightly to the off-on threats of the NSCN-K to abrogate the over 14-year ceasefire.

The commentators had also pointed out the detrimental effects in such eventuality of ceasefire abrogation. However, the government was ‘purposefully’ insensitive to the media advice. Though its strategies may have elements of rationality peppered with politically correct stand the government should not have adopted things that cost public security and peace.

According to Eastern Mirror of Nagaland, the government was rather stubborn and took the offensive approach after learning that the NSCN-K was harbouring a thought of ceasing the ceasefire. Amidst these heightening speculations there came a strong signal from the NSCN-K that the outfit meant it–the NSCN-K vacated its Suruhoto designated camp.

Sadly, the government was not moved by this strong message of the NSCN-K. The government also failed to understand the fact that there was little relevance on size count of any outfit in carrying out subversive activities. The government also did not realize that rest of the Naga outfits engaging in ceasefire with the government will have little bearing in the society when one outfit goes on with its militant fireworks.

What goes around comes around. The government objective of peace is greatly deterred today. New Delhi’s concern of the Khaplang group hobnobbing with other militant outfits (not in cease fire) is a genuine case. But the government’s mishandling of affairs has begun to manufacture more worms.

At the end of the day forlorn scenes will stare at us—the village cemeteries will keep expanding while the government forces will be busy ordering for more body bags. Hopefully, things are not gone that way. (Agencies)
