One of my close friends was talking to a top most politician in Andhra Pradesh who was drunk. When the subject matter shifted to what is needed to lead a comfortable life, my friend said \"being able to marry off two kids, see the peaceful departure of parents, 3bhk own house, good health, money just enough to live, travel within India and lead a reasonably comfortable life\".

One of my close friends was talking to a top most politician in Andhra Pradesh who was drunk. When the subject matter shifted to what is needed to lead a comfortable life, my friend said "being able to marry off two kids, see the peaceful departure of parents, 3bhk own house, good health, money just enough to live, travel within India and lead a reasonably comfortable life".

The discussion further continued and that drunken politicians said, you need 1.50 crores of FD to take care of your needs. My friend being a finance pro nodded his head in agreement.
To this the drunken politician (DP) said "I too have started with this kind of ambition but when I got the power the money started flowing into my coffers - that are unknown to ITax Act - without my permission and you can not see the kind of life we lead when we go on vacation the kind of spending we do etc are unimaginable for persons like you. So we continue to allow the flow of money from business men who want us to do favours for them in terms of quick granting of permissions, licenses etc or ignoring their non-compliances."

Then why do you insist on particular figure for such free flow of money without your involvement? - my friend asked.

DP said "when I know that these business men can afford to, I ask for what I want and this game continues. That is why you see no end for corrupt earning. And I can not stop it too......"

This gives some clue as to why politicians in power can not stop taking bribes. We find the following cases that intrigue us as to why these stinkingly rich persons still need money:

  • Crores of wealth in cash and kind
  • Ability to sustain the current standards of living not only for self but also for three generations down the line!
  • No need to spend personal money at all for any kind of needs starting from bed tea/coffee as it would be provided by either govt or the business men.
  • Any visit to any place including a visit from Assembly to Kukatpally costs huge public money if it is out of station more public money. Simple example would be the mode of travel preferred by Top Political Leaders leading the Government to Shamshabad Air Port - Helicopter from their place to Air Port by spending huge public money.

Now let us think as to how can we make these Top Political Leaders to think of simple life? Can we expect the road to their homes, places where they camp are like the ones we see in old city of Hyderabad? Where is the scope to lead a simple / common life?

In the name of Democracy we have vested huge powers to spend public money with our CMs and PM. Do we see the audit report of PM's and CM's Relief Fund published in news papers other than the ads with their photographs along with the brief details of some welfare schemes?

We are also witness to the announcement of crores of rupees being granted to various Temples, Festivals, Malayalees, Christians, Muslims and Sikhs for their festivals, hosting feasts, gifting clothes, building halls. Whose money is this? Whose permission the CMs have taken to spend?Does any one know as to what is the limit of granting and spending public money by the CM without seeking the approval of the House?

The realities of Democracy are different. Why not CM of TS prefer to handover the Invitation for the Chandi Yagam to CM of AP in Hyderabad itself? Why does he need to use helicopter for this to go to Vijayawada along with his entourage? Whose money is he spending? If this is his money would he spend like this?

So the absolute power corrupts the persons in power absolutely. The above are the examples to illustrate why the stinkingly rich people still need more money? The urge to earn more money never dies as long as the opportunities and power exists. It dies only with the individual and again gets manifested in their progeny!! Have we ever seen any politician who lead a life with pomp and music had stopped earning money and leading the simple life?

Can we expect Lalu Prasad Yadav to stop earning and help Farmers and Milch Animals? Why YS Jagan needs a palatial house in Bangalore and at Lotus Pond? Why Mayawati erected her statues while she is alive? Why even the street level politicians resort to print flex boards and display in a dangerous manner to show case their joy of being elected, or celebrating their birthdays? These are the proofs that politicians want more and more money and fame, if every thing permits. It is foolish on our part to believe their statements about abolishing of corruption, making governance more transparent, etc. All these actions are limited to certain govt work processes only. When it comes to signing the file, issuing GO etc., the bribe does the trick and it transcends all the work processes, so called transparent and smart governing systems; and ethics.

We are yet to see the emergence of a great political leader in the post independence time. Lok Satta Leader Dr. JP and Kejriwal, Chiranjeevi, Vijayakanth in Tamil Nadu all have failed their fans and people who believed in them. We need new generation politicians not like person based political parties like Janasatta which professes "Pavanism". What if the top political leader dies? Does any political party share with the people the leadership pipeline to showcase the future leaders? As long as I am alive I am CM or PM is the vision, mission and values. Jyothi Basu the so called communist leader is the classic case. If Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi dies what will happen to the AIADMK and DMK respectively? This logic applies to all the person based political parties including Congress though it boasts of successor as the son or daughter!! We are gong to see dramatic events in near future as the current generation is smart enough to find out who is more relevant to the Nation or State.

Therefore the lust for power is another reason for the corruption at higher levels to continue and the stinkingly rich will become unbelievably rich.
