Kamareddy: Members of the leftist organisations, AISF, PDSU and SFI on Thursday tried to lay siege to the house of local MLA Gampa Govardhan protesting against the setting up of private universities in the Telangana State.

About 500 students had reached the legislator’s house after taking out a protest rally. The police stopped them, as the students raised anti-government slogans.

The police arrested ten leaders of various student organisations. Later, speaking to the media, PDSU leader Azad said that private universities would hurt the interests of the poor students and those from the backward communities as they were elitist in nature, catering to the rich.Instead, the government should take steps to strengthen the existing State universities, he added.
