shabirNizamabad: The efforts of former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir for the past four years to get a post fructified on Monday when the Congress party decided to nominate him for MLC post under MLAs quota. After getting B form from the PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana, Mohammed Ali Shabbir filed his nomination on Monday for MLC post. His supporters in the party in Kamareddy Assembly constituency, his relatives and people of his community felt happy. Born on February 15, 1957,he is a B.Com graduate and was married to Nafiz Parveen. Iliyaz is his son and Nishath Parveen and Sazia Parveen are his daughters. He started his political career as Youth Congress leader in 1984 and unsuccessfully contested as Mandal Praja Parishad president of Machareddy mandal in 1987. He worked as PCC vice-president and DCC president. Shabbir Ali was elected as MLA from Kamareddy Assembly constituency in Nizamabad district in 1989 for the first time and worked as minister for Minority Welfare when Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy was the Chief Minister. In 1994 and 1999 elections, he was defeated. But he continued to maintain good relations with the people of Kamareddy constituency. In 2004, he was elected with good majority and worked as minister during Y S Rajasekhar Reddy regime. As minister, Shabbir Ali held the portfolios of power, coal and Information and Public Relations (I & PR). Because of his initiative, a number of sub-stations were established in the constituency. He was instrumental in getting a drinking water supply scheme worth Rs 140 cr to his constituency. Former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy laid foundation for the much publicized Pranahita-Chevella Lift Irrigation Project in the constituency due to the efforts of Shabbir Ali. As TDP and TRS formed a grand alliance (Maha Kootami), Shabbir Ali was defeated in 2009 polls. He was also defeated in the 2010 bye-elections due to separate Telangana sentiment among the people. After his defeat, the works drinking water supply and Lift Irrigation Project which were initiated by him were slowed down. He has been maintaining good equations even with the party leaders in Delhi. Since 2009, he has been trying to get a post. Last time, D Srinivas was given a chance as MLC. At last, the party cleared him for the post of MLC on Monday nearly after a gap of four years.
