Nizamabad: The division (reallocation) of Mandal Parishad Territorial Committee (MPTC) members in Nizamabad district was completed on Thursday. Accordingly, the MPTC seats were classified based on population and reservation norms.
As per 2001 census, the district had a population of more than 18 lakhs. However, in accordance with 2011 census, the district has a population of 20,38,392. Of the total 36 mandals, 32 witnessed increase in population. The Election Commission gave instructions to officials to work on the basis of 2011 population.
After the completion of polls to gram panchayats, officials working in Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Raj department and other departments started working on identifying MPTC seats and their allocation as per reservation guidelines. The details of wards in Nizamabad Municipal Corporation, Kamareddy, Bodhan and Armoor municipalities were notified recently. The district has three revenue divisions – Nizamabad, Bodhan and Kamareddy.
The Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rajaram said to The Hans India on Thursday that meetings with mandal and divisional level officials were held and discussed about the demarcation of MPTC seats. The matter was discussed with Mandal Parishad Development Officers (MPDOs) for preparing lists. After considering the hike in population, lists of MPTCs were prepared and displayed in the notice boards at mandal and panchayat offices. Objections, if any, were invited from the public. After making certain corrections, the final lists were prepared and sent to government, Mr Rajaram said.
Earlier, as per 2001 census, there were 528 MPTC seats in the district and the number has been increased to 583 based on 2011 population, he added. The number of MPTCs has been increased in mandal headquarters and in major panchayats.
