auto driverOngole: An incident in which a money lender assaulted a woman after illegally confining her in his office as her husband did not repay the loan taken by another auto driver came to light here on Thursday. Going into details, an auto driver in Ongole, Subbaiah took a loan of Rs 10,000 from a money lender Singaraju Venkat Rao and repaid it.

However, Subbaiah signed on a surety bond as a guarantor for another auto driver Sreenu for Rs. 50,000. But Sreenu failed to repay the loan and with this, Subbaiah's troubles began. The enraged Venkat Rao sent his men to fetch Subbaiah. They went to Subbaiah's house but he was not there. His wife Lalitha told them that her husband was not at home and that he would come later.

However, Venkat Rao's henchmen forcibly took Lalitha to Venkat Rao's place. Venkat Rao demanded repayment of loan amount which is now Rs one lakh including the interest. When his wife expressed her helplessness in this regard and told them that her husband would return soon, the enraged Venkat Rao started abusing Subbaiah's wife in foul language. He also assaulted her and illegally confined her in his house.

Meanwhile, on learning that his wife was detained by the money lender, Subbaiah met the Superintendent of Police Dr Kolli Raghuram Reddy and lodged a complaint. The police led by One Town CI Prakash Rao swung into action and freed Lalitha from the clutches of Venkat Rao.

The crime of Subbaiah was that he stood as a guarantor for another person who could not repay the loan. A case of abduction and illegal confinement was booked against Venkat Rao.
