Former Andhra captain Gopannapasses away

Popularly known as Gopanna in the cricketing circles of Andhra , he was known for his hard-hitting skills with the bat while also being an effective medium pacer and occasional wicket-keeper. He represented Andhra in Ranji Trophy for eight years and played 18 matches, including Andhra’s first ever match under Col CK Nayudu against Karnataka (then Mysore) at Bangalore in 1953-54.
Kakinada: Former Andhra captain and chairman of Ranji Trophy selection committee, Kommireddy Gopala Krishna passed away at the age of 84 after a brief illness here on Saturday.

He went on to serve as the Vice-President of Andhra Cricket Association and East Godavari District Cricket Association. Two of his sons, KS Bhaskar Ramamurthy and KVSD Kama Raju have captained Andhra in the Ranji
Trophy.
