Jalandar: In a major boost to his career, Hyderabad’s hugely gifted Candidate Master R Raja Rithvik emerged as the undisputed champion in the Under-13 National Chess Championship-2017 here.

Displaying consistency in every round, he logged nine points from 11 rounds to clinch the title and justified the top billing.
A ninth standard student of Orchids International School in Hyderabad’s Jubilee Hills, Rithvik defeated Arnav Tiwari of New Delhi in the final round. On his way to the title, he won mind—games over opponents, who came from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.

Enjoying an ELO rating of 2155, the latest conquest has propelled Rithvik into the Indian team that will participate in the ensuing Asian Youth, World Youth and Commonwealth Chess Championships.

In a huge celebration of the success of his protégé N Rama Raju Raja, under whom Rithvik is undergoing advanced coaching at RACE Chess Academy, said that this was a timely morale-booster for the boy as he gears up for the tough season ahead.

Senior administrators from Telangana State Chess Association A Narasimha Reddy, Major KA Shiva Prasad and KS Prasad greeted him on the success and wished that continues to bring more laurels to the State and the country.They are not lofty claims as Rithvik has been reinforcing his credentials by out-smarting formidable opponents across the board while making winning moves even in senior categories.
