Hyderabad: Telangana Hockey celebrated the best of talent from the State at a glittering function organised here on Sunday.
Ironically, this also marked the day when Saral Talwar assumed office as its President, replacing K Amarender Reddy.
Talwar is the Executive Director of Talwar Group, which has dealership of Hyundai Cars, Volvo Cars, Eicher Truck and Busses amongst others. In his presidential speech, Talwar said that he would ensure optimal support to all players in the State. They deserve platforms to showcase their talent and move up the national ladder, which would be on top of their agenda.
Telangana Hockey General Secretary and triple Olympian N Mukesh Kumar reassured to take all possible steps to tap rural talent. He said it was towards this that they had been conducting tournaments, including age-group ones, in districts, where talent waits to be recognized and groomed. Nalgonda and Ranga Reddy districts were the next destinations, he said.
The former India captain explained that they nurtured hopes that Telangana would have a robust presence in the national squad, sooner than later. He said this was achievable as they had the services of diligent coaches and passionately committed administrators to take the vision forward. Blending the talent and putting together a winnable team was within their means and they would leave no stone unturned to achieve this, he averred.
Later, the President and General Secretary of Telangana Hockey gave away prizes to the best in each male and female category, including sub-junior, junior and senior. The best manager and coach were also rewarded with citations.
S Surinder Singh from Karimnagar was declared as the best manager while the best coach was ES Sanjay Kumar from Hyderabad. Warangal Hockey was awarded with the ‘Best Inter-district organiser’ award.
