Hyderabad: Telangana State IT Minister KT Rama Rao on Monday lamented that the authorities have been found wanting when it comes to making appropriate use of the infrastructural facilities that are available for cricket across the State.

He bemoaned that this was one of the reasons why Hyderabad cricket has failed to produce international players at regular intervals. Mohd Siraj has arrived on the scene after pretty long time, he said while reiterating that the State Government would support all cricketing endeavours so that players could be in international reckoning, sooner than later.

The Minister was speaking after inaugurating the country’s first outlet of the globally-acknowledged bat manufacturer from New Zealand, Laver & Wood at Road No 2 in Banjara Hills here.

The Exclusive Laver & Wood Cricket Bat store comes with a credible legacy as their bats have been used by celebrities of the extraordinary calibre of Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Rahul Dravid and Sanath Jayasurya. James Laver, Managing Director of the famed manufacturer, gave details of the effort that goes into making each bat.

“It takes about four hours of labour and goes through a week-long process of curing, shaping, sanding and polishing,” said Laver, while adding ‘We’re the only company worldwide to make a bat through all phases-from the cleft to the finished product in whatever shape one wishes for.”

He pointed out that they would shortly start making bats in India under their overall supervision so that there would be no compromise on their signature style and quality.

Co-promoter Vemuri Aditya, while introducing Ranji player, Akash Bhandari, as their brand ambassador stated that it was a matter of privilege that they had become the first Indian firm to get associated with a world-renowned manufacturer like Laver & Wood.

Boasting of a varied collection and in all shapes and sizes that cater to both professionals and amateurs, Laver & Wood also offers custom-made bats in three categories-elite Reserve range, traditional Private Bin range and the mid-range Legend.
