Srikakulam: District Collector Saurabh Gaur examined the vocational education being provided to the deaf and dumb students. A residential special training centre has been sanctioned for the School for the Deaf and Dumb Children run by the Sumatra Women's Union at local Officials' Colony.

As part of the training, speech therapy for girls is being extended through the Suraksha Institute for which a teacher has been appointed. Training is being given to the girls in stitching as part of vocational education.

During the visit to the centre on Wednesday, the Collector urged the staff members to prepare estimates for the tools needed by the students. It would be arranged from the Rajiv Vidya Mission and the RIMS Hospital development funds, he said.

Speech therapist R Sailaja informed the Collector that at present only children below two years of age were undergoing cochlea implantation and suggested that if children in the age group of six to 18 years undergo therapy the results would be great.

The Collector examined the implements needed for speech therapy. He said equipment that was not working should be repaired immediately.A Suraksha representative Gorla Raj Kishore said that special steps would be taken for the education and employment of girls. The services of a teacher would be deployed and aid would be given for higher education of the students, he said.
