Srikakulam: A woman launched a fast in front of her lover's residence when he fled the village after promising to marry her. According to sources, Barla Padmavathi, who hails from Mogalipadu village in Palasa mandal of Srikakulam district, was in love with one Jalandhara Patro of same village for the past four years.
Patro was working as a teacher in a private school, while Padmavathi was doing tailoring work. n fact, she was rejecting the proposals brought by her family with an intention of marrying her lover. But he was evading the marriage for the past few years. Padmavathi fed up with his attitude, she lodged a complaint with the village elders, who in turn, reprimanded him and took a written statement signed by him accepting to marry the woman on August 25.
The family of bride agreed to give Rs one lakh cash, two wheeler and one tola of gold. The marriage was arranged at Ganesh temple in the village. Surprisingly, on Sunday, when the bride, her family and relatives went to the temple, the groom was not present. Hence, they grew suspicious and went to his residence and found it locked. Therefore, she staged a dharna in front of her lover's house. Meanwhile, on receiving information, the police rushed to the spot and advised Padmavati to lodge a complaint against missing groom.
