Hyderabad: The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi is using a whole bag of tricks to win maximum number of zilla parishad and municipal chairpersons’ posts, besides mandal parishad presidents (MPPs) in indirect elections to be held on July 3.
Telangana Chief Minister and TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao held a luncheon meeting, in this connection, with his Cabinet colleagues at his official residence, Begumpet Camp Office on Sunday.
He allotted selected districts to Ministers and told them to stay put there until completion of election formalities. KCR asked them not to leave any stone unturned, so that TRS gets top honours in majority of districts. It may be mentioned here TRS already has Adilabad, Karimnagar and Nizamabad ZP chairpersons’ posts in its kitty having secured a comfortable number of ZPTCs in those districts. Also, Medak ZP chairperson post is all set to go into TRS quota. Hung mandate was witnessed with TRS and Congress securing 21 ZPTCs each, while TDP got four seats in a house of 46. However, a few ZPTCs from the TDP and the Congress switched loyalties to the TRS soon after the Assembly elections. The ruling party has easily crossed the magic figure of 23 seats and is all set to bag ZP chairperson crown in KCR’s native district.
With four chairpersons’ posts in its quota, the TRS has set its eyes on Warangal, Ranga Reddy and Mahabubnagar, as well, since it is in second position to the Congress.
However, with the TRS being in power, equations have changed in the last few weeks with many ZPTCs from the Congress and the TDP seeking greener pastures.
KCR has directed Ministers to ensure that the TRS bags coveted posts in these three districts.
The Chief Minister even told ministers to try their luck in Nalgonda district where Congress is sitting pretty by bagging a highest number of 43 ZPTC seats out of the total 59, while TRS was distantly placed second with just 13 seats. He felt that the ruling party advantage might work in favor of them even in Nalgonda district.
It is learnt KCR has allotted a group of Ministers to each district to carry out lobbying on behalf of the party for even MPP and municipal chairpersons’ posts, besides the plum ZP chairpersons’ posts.
Mahabubnagar district responsibilities were given to Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali and excise minister T Padma Rao, while Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy and G Jagadeeshwar Reddy would take care of Nalgonda.
