Warangal: The leaders of the Telangana Praja Sanghala Ikya Vedika have demanded the state government to initiate immediate measures for withdrawal of cases booked against Telangana activists who participated in statehood agitation.

The Vedika leaders have alleged that the undivided Andhra Pradesh State government led by Seemandhra rulers booked dozens of illegal cases against each activist for supporting the cause of statehood.

In support of their demand, members of the Vedika took out a rally from Telangana Martyrs Memorial to the District Collectorate where they held demonstration and submitted a memorandum to the district administration.

Vedika leaders Maddileti, B Rama Devi, Bommalla Kattaiah, Nalamasi Krishna, Chunchu Rajender, K Janardhan, Chandrasekhar, Md Bhasith, P Venkat, Ashok Stalin, Kala Anita, Bharathi, Uma Devi and others took part in the demonstration.

They said the TRS came to power in the State following the sacrifices made by the students and it has promised to lift the cases filed against them. But nothing was done so far, the Vedika leaders complained.

The protesters said that the students have fought for the cause of separate state risking their academic careers and hoping they would get quality education and employment once the Telangana state was formed.

They pointed out that students were unable to continue studies or get jobs as numerous cases were pending against them.

The TRS government should immediately keep its promise and lift the cases against the students, Vedika leaders demanded. Police cases that were pending against students since 1996 should be withdrawn, the Vedika demanded.
