KTR explains Household Survey to delagates

Hyderabad: Telangana State Information Technology and Panchayat Raj Minister K T Rama Rao called upon the delegates at XI Metropolis World Congress to study the model of the Intensive Household Survey (IHS) which was carried out by the Telangana government recently.

Addressing a session on Redefining Urban Agenda -'Big Data, Big ideas, Big Challenges', KTR said the newly-formed State had several unique problems and the government had taken it as a challenge in addressing these issues.

As a first step, the government had taken up the IHS, which was a herculean task of collecting data of nearly 3.6 crore of the State population. But the government succeeded in its efforts, he said. KTR said the State government with nearly 39 per cent of its population living in the urban areas had set a big agenda for their empowerment.

The data collected through the survey would be used to chalk out a policy to provide welfare schemes for the needy. The data is being analysed using IT tools to ensure that fruits of the welfare schemes reach the targeted groups of the society. He elaborated how the whole exercise of data collection was completed in a single day.

KTR added that technology was a fantastic tool that provides to arrive at accurate data and would be of intense help in the city and urban planning along with streamlining the citizen services.

Besides, understanding of the huge accumulated data would also help the government in sector-wise planning, better asset management, environmental resource management, prediction, monitoring and forecast of the mitigation plans needed in an urban settings. It will also help the government in emergency response planning, disaster mitigation, revenue administration and citizen services and the like.

Later, Xavier Trias, the Mayor of Barcelona, during his address said, that there were several common issues on which both the city of Barcelona and Hyderabad could come together for mutual cooperation.
