Hyderabad: Telangana government on Saturday announced that Mid Manair project in Karimnagar district, which is set to irrigate 1.7 lakh acres of land, would be completed within the next one-and-half year. It directed Karimnagar district administration to expedite resettlement and rehabilitation (R&R) process for displaced people and ensure project got completed on time.

Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and Panchayat Raj Minister K Taraka Rama Rao held a review with concerned officials in Assembly meeting hall on Saturday.

The Ministers directed the authorities to complete land acquisition within one month in Kodurupaka, Nilajpalli, Rudraram, Cheerlavancha, Chintalatanla and other affected villages. Construction of houses for the displaced should commence from January, they stressed.

It may be mentioned here that works for Mid Manair project with capacity 24.87 tmc started in 2012. The estimated cost was 360 crore. The extent of land to be irrigated was 1.51 acres in Karimnagar and 49 acres in Warangal district.

After completion of works worth Rs 46 crore, the project could not progress further due to problems in R&R issue. There are around 11 affected villages in Mid Manair Project catchment area. The government should pay Rs 750 crore towards R&R. Out of which, Rs 250 crore has been paid already. The government has proposed to acquire 14,300 acres of land. However, it could not materialise due to various issues.
