Hyderabad: If Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has his way, skyscrapers dotting Hussain Sagar on all sides would be a reality in future. Pointing out that there were many advantages with high-rise buildings, he said the government and private offices, business establishments, star hotels and tourist hospitality centres could be accommodated all in one place. Upgrading various parks around Hussain Sagar besides cleaning the pollute lake are also high on his agenda.

KCR held a review meeting with Revenue Department officials in this connection at his residence in Begumpet on Wednesday. He proposed 60 to 100-storey buildings around Hussain Sagar, which, he felt, was a prized possession of the city. He cited Petronas Towers in Kaula Lumpur and high-rise buildings dotting sea in Mumbai as examples to make his point.

Using Google maps, Rao checked various government lands in places surrounding Hussain Sagar such as Ambedkar Nagar, Boats Club, Lower Tank Bund, DBR Mills and Sanjeevaih Park among others. He asked revenue officials to submit full details of government lands around the lake. He suggested accommodating slum dwellers in one such multi-storey building so that they would part with the lands occupied by them.

KCR suggested that officials explore all possibilities - whether government should take up construction of skyscrapers or the job should be handed to private agencies. He also directed authorities to give facelift to various parks including Lumbini Park, Sanjeevaiah Park, NTR Gardens and Indira Park besides Necklace Road which should be developed on par with parks abroad.
