Sircilla (Karimnagar): Power loom workers in Sircilla who hardly earn enough money to have a square meal a day by working from dawn to dusk , are now busy with orders placed by Tamil Nadu government.

Thousands of people in the town depend on textile sector for their livelihood.

But the workers were distressed due to frequent strikes and shortage of orders. The power-loom owners as well as workers are now busy with orders from Tamil Nadu.

On the occasion of Pongal, every year Tamil Nadu government distributes saris and dhotis to the poor in the State.

Tamil Nadu trades placed orders with Sircilla power loom weavers as the weavers in Tamil Nadu were finding it difficult to supply the clothes within the stipulated time. Speaking to The Hans India on Sunday, Kanakaraj Gopal, a trader from Tamil Nadu, said Sircilla weavers were highly skilled, creative and had come up with trendy designs.

He said Tamil Nadu agencies had placed orders for procurement of 30 lakh metres of Polycot (a mixture of Polyester and Cotton) textiles. The workers who earn Rs 100 a day usually are now earning anywhere between Rs 300 to Rs 450 a day.

In all, workers were working round-the-clock for the past 45 days to supply 3 lakh saris and 3 lakh dhotis to Tamil Nadu government within stipulated time.

The weavers appealed to the Telangana State government to place orders to resolve the problems of weavers in Sircilla.
