Sircilla (Karimnagar): About 2000 beedi workers under the banner of Indian Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU) took out a massive rally from Government Junior College grounds to Gandhi Chowk here on Friday. Rally was organised demanding the state government to fulfil its poll promises given to beedi workers. They formed a human chain at Gandhi Chowk. Later, beedi workers staged a protest in front of the office of Revenue Divisional Officer and submitted a memorandum to an official in the office.

IFTU district leader Chinta Bumeshwar said that the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao should implement his poll promise of sanctioning Rs 1000 as pension every month for beedi workers. He stated that owners of beedi units are providing work to beedi workers only for 10 days in a month. IFTU leader demanded the TRS government to ensure 30-day work for beedi workers. He further said that beedi units are exploiting the hard work of beedi workers by paying lesser wages. He asked the government to take measures for payment of wages according to the work taken from beedi workers. He warned state government that beedi workers would launch protests in a big way if their demands were not met.
