Warangal: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s surprise visit to slums in Warangal (East) Assembly segment on Thursday was marred by a large number of complaints by residents on denial of pensions and ration cards. Irked by this, KCR has expressed ire at Collector G Kishan and other officials. He told them to fine-tune themselves to meet people’s needs, while referring to the complaints.
Rao, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Dr T Rajaiah, local MLA Konda Surekha, MP A Seetaram Naik, MLAs A Ramesh and M Yagagiri Reddy, Kishan and Municipal Commissioner Suvarna Panda Das, went round several slums. The CM interacted with people and received petitions during the three-hour tour in Laxmipuram, Sakarasikunta, Girimajipet, Gandhi Nagar, Laxmi Nagar and Bhagath Singh Nagar.
Many slum-dwellers complained that they have been deprived of roads, drains and streetlights. KCR asked them to form `basti committees’ and hold discussions with officials to get their problems solved. The CM, addressing gatherings of residents at several places, said the government would construct one-plus-one houses for all, if they agree. He advised them to speak with officials and give their consent, while promising to provide all facilities.
Each house in a slum will have two bedrooms, a hall, a kitchen and two toilets. KCR directed the Collector and other officials to undertake a door-to-door survey of slum-dwellers and compile their requirements by Friday. "I will be here tomorrow and the day after and will visit other slums. If you have any problem, come to me directly,” he told the residents. “I don’t want to see Warangal with slums. Your dreams would come true and soon your troubles would end”.
