Hyderabad: Even as TRS is weighing candidatures, the BJP has plunged into the fray and declared its candidates for the two Graduate Constituency seats - E Rammohan Rao from Khammam-Warangal-Nalgonda and N Ramachander Rao from Mahabubnagar-Hyderabad-Ranga Reddy and is actively enrolling members.
However, the BJP faces a formidable rival in the TRS. Admitting that there is no anti-TRS wave, senior BJP leader T Rajeshwar Rao told The Hans India that the party is pinning hopes on the Modi sentiment. It hopes to benefit from the fascination of educated middle class for Modi. TRS leaders refute BJP’s claims. Dr Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, who himself is an aspirant for Nalgonda seat, stated that KCR’s image alone would work in Telangana. This was evident in the recently held Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) elections, he added.
Among ticket hopefuls in Khammam-Warangal-Nalgonda segment from TRS include Nalgonda district president Banda Narender Reddy, Warangal president T Ravinder Rao, Dr Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, M Yadava Reddy and P Sarangapani among others. The Left parties are in the process of working out joint strategies to fight these elections. Left has a strong base in Khammam and Nalgonda districts besides having a strong presence in various unions. However, differences between CPI and CPI (M) have come to the fore over arriving at a consensus for common candidate. .
Meanwhile, the BJP has secured the support of TDP in both the seats. It will mainly bank on TDP in Hyderabad in the Mahabubnagar-Hyderabad-Ranga Reddy Graduates constituency. BJP’s Ramachander Rao lost to independent candidate Prof K Nageshwar in 2009 from this constituency.
There are scores of hopefuls for this constituency from the TRS. Names of labour wing leader Mothe Sobhan Reddy and AVN Reddy, chairman of a reputed educational institution, are doing the rounds. According to sources, former BJP MLA Yannam Srinivas Reddy has shown interest to switch loyalties towards the ruling party, provided he is offered the MLC ticket.
