Local residents demand house site pattas

Bellampalli (Adilabad): In response to the bandh call given by the BJP on Friday, shops, commercial establishments and private educational institutions remained closed in the coal belt. The bandh call was given protesting against the indifferent attitude of the government in resolving the housing problem of the people.

Speaking to the media, some of the residents said that though they were living in this region for the last 80 years after constructing houses and were paying taxes regularly, they were not provided with house site pattas in the 34 municipal wards of Bellampalli town.

BJP town president Gaddam Vasuram said that house site pattas were given only in Kothagudem and Godavarikhani areas falling within the precincts of the Singareni region while other areas were totally ignored.

He said the population of Bellampalli town was 56,000 out of which 47,700 people were living in slums facing miserable conditions.

He said that the Bellampalli municipality covered an area of 18.84 square kilometres and three-fourths of this land was under the lease of the Singareni Collieries. Though the TRS government issued 58 to 59 GOs till now, they do not cover their houses, he lamented.

BJP leader Keshava Reddy said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao should visit their place to know about te problems of local people and take steps to regularise their constructions by issuing a special Government Order.

He said that the police threatened them that cases would be booked against them and they would be arrested if they gave a bandh call in the town.

But, we would not be cowed down by such threats, he said.
