Hyderabad: The Pranahita Chevella dam height figured mainly in talks between Irrigation officials of Telangana and Maharashtra states held at Jalasoudha on Wednesday.

While Maharashtra sought the height be reduced from 152 feet, Telangana State government maintained that a Pune- based Resource Institute stated that there were no technical problems with the height.

Irrigation Engineers-in-Chief of both Telangana State and Maharashtra states discussed issues relating to Pranahita-Chevella and Babhali projects. Citing Supreme Court judgment that directed Maharashtra to release 0.6 tmct of water every year from March 1, Telangana State urged the neighboring State to ensure the same. However, Maharashtra officials expressed their helplessness due to lack of adequate water.
In response, Telangana officials requested their counterparts to take action according to apex court directives. As regards the Pranahita-Chevella project, the neighbouring State made an appeal to Telangana to reconsider its decision in regard to the height of the dam because of the risk of displacement of villages.
Telangana Irrigation officials gave them the report of a Punebased firm that approved technicalities relating to the project.
Irrigation officials of both states decided to meet again on March 13 to arrive at an acceptable decision.
