In his endeavour to transform Hyderabad as a cultural landmark of erstwhile Telangana and to erase the footprints of Andhra rulers, the Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao plans to demolish many of the mascots of Andhra culture and traditions in Hyderabad.

He has zeroed in on the landmark Ravindra Bharathi, a centre for performing arts in the heart of the city and build it in the shape of a Pearl oyster, and an international convention centre at the NTR gardens.

The CMO has released proposed designs of the new landmarks in the city indicating that the Chief Minister is determined to go ahead with the shifting of the state secretariat and also to rebuild cultural landmarks in spite of hiccups, severe opposition from other political parties including the Left parties.

Helping the CM realize the Golden Telangana is noted architect Hafeez Contractor, the designer of iconic buildings such as 23 Marina Towers in Dubai and Infosys Technologies' IT Parks across the country.

Hafeez presented several models to KCR so far. During the second meeting with the Chief Minister on Thursday after last December, Hafeez presented solid proposals to transform the Nizam's city into a global city.

Contractor even gave a PowerPoint presentation at the CM’s camp office on various projects that could be taken up in the city. Hafeez presented model skyscrapers to be built in the vicinity of Tank Bund and Musi river front. Based on Google Earth maps, Hafeez is said to have won the Chief Minister’s heart by superimposing the structures in real time.

Among the finalized designs was ‘Telangana Kala Bharathi’, an international convention centre, in the NTR stadium near Indira Park. The Chief Minister has urged Hafeez that the convention centre should have at least four auditoriums with a seating capacity ranging from 3,000 to 600 each with ample vehicle parking space and perfect acoustics. On the other hand, the pearl oyster shaped cultural centre expected to come up in the present location of Ravindra Bharathi will be somewhat similar to the Opera house in Australia, to remind the visitor that Hyderabad is a City of Pearls.

Hafeez Contractor will also be undertaking redesigning of areas surrounding heritage places such as Mozamjahi Market, Charminar, Hussainsagar and the Salar Jung museum to augment their original beauty. KCR also asked him to design parks on either sides of Musi besides parking facilities. He wanted Salar Jung Museum to be developed as an international museum.
