Telengana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao's love and hate for media surfaced once again.Once again he lashed out that a section of the media had targeted his government in the garb of journalism by putting out concocted, imaginary and baseless stories to show it in poor light from the very first session of the Assembly last year.
After a couple of TV channels were blacked out following strong reaction from legislators when they were humiliated on screen, came the turn of a daily to publish negative stories about Telengana government's proposals to own coal mines overseas to meet the power demands of future industries and generations in the state.
Rao poured out his agony to a select gathering of journalists at the Press Academy in hyderbad on how the fourth estate has been very cruel to the cause of Telangana and TRS in particular. A Minister was even challenged to prove he was not wrong. “Naturally, I have to act to stem the rot as head of the government,” he remarked.
He also quoted how a letter by L&T Metro Rail written during the Congress regime in February last year surfaced to malign the Telangana Government . It clearly shows media is also playing power politics and this is not Journalism.
Advising restraint and to infuse more moral fiber in its functioning in journalism Rao said the government would do everything to promote the welfare of media and that he dreamt of a Journalist Bhavan with five star suites and a decent residential accommodation for media personnel in gated communities.
To frame guidelines for the issue of accreditation cards to journalists hailing from Telangana, he announced a committee with K. Ramachandra Murthy as chairman.
