Hyderabad: The Telangana government is exploring new possibilities to increase State revenues. Besides increasing VAT on gold ornaments, it is also mulling to enhance VAT on textiles sale in shopping malls.Elaborating details, Commercial Taxes Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav lamented that big shopping malls, jewellery shops, corporate hospitals and even cinema halls were not remitting taxes regularly.

He stated that government would crack a whip against such business houses in the coming days. He later appealed to the traders to pay taxes on time and do their bit for development of the new State. He added that online facility would be introduced soon for tax payments.

Meanwhile, the Minister informed that all the government hospitals in twin cities would get an additional power line to cope up with the unexpected power outages. Stating that power problems witnessed by Koti Maternity Hospital as unfortunate, he added that everything has been resolved. He further said government was taking all steps to ensure uninterrupted power supply to schools and colleges.

Nandi Awards

Futher, Talasani, who is also holding the charge of Cinematography, stated that government had decided to present its own awards for excellence in cinema and television. Instead of Nandi Awards, a new name would be finalised soon, he said.
