However, this year, neither syllabus nor the printers are finalised yet. The government which had constituted subject-wise committee to revise curriculum of Telugu and Social Studies has completed the revision and draft textbooks were sent by Department of School Education for an approval from Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Rao who went through draft had proposed some changes to the social studies curriculum.

An official of Telangana State Council for Education and Training (SCERT) said that Chief Minister wants more Telangana flavour in the books and proposed detailed Telangana movement from 1969 to 2014 to be introduced in the Social Studies textbooks.

“The proposed changes will take 10-15 days. We will be able to send for printing by the end of March,” S Jagannath Reddy, Director, Telangana State Council of Education and Training (SCERT) said. However, TSCERT sources said the proposed changes by the Chief Minister cannot be completed at least till end of March, as adding portion pertaining to Telangana movement is time-consuming process.

“Last year, Class X textbooks were given to the students before the commencement of summer vacation. In view of the pace of activity in the Council, the students may receive textbooks by the end of the June,” an official of TSCERT said. On other hand, the government is yet to ascertain number of students studying in the government schools for supplying the textbooks.

An official of Education Department said that enrolment figures obtained through District Information System for Education (DISE) and records available with department do not match. “Now we are in the process of ascertaining exact number of students as there is mismatch of data provided by Mandal Education Officers and DISE,” official said. Meanwhile, he government which had called for State-wide tenders for printing textbooks has almost finalised the printers. According to the sources, the government has sent a team to printing station for verifying the information furnished by the printers.
