Thanks to Andhra Pradesh’ two power units - the gas-based Lanco plant on the east coast and Gayatri in Nellore, Telangana’s power situation would get a big boost.

Commercial Generation of the 600-MW unit from the 1,320-MW Thermal Powertech Corporation India (TPCL) started late last week and as its share, Telangana will get 53.89 per cent or 360 MW. The fertilizer ministry gave further relief for swapping Regassified Liquefied Natural Gas with K-G Basin that will give Telangana 242 MW out of 450 MW and gas from the KG-D6 block will go to the Lanco unit.

Ranging at a rate of Rs. 6-7.70 per unit, Telangana is buying power from the southern exchange. To overcome the power deficit, Telangana has been buying at least 5 million units daily.
