‘Go Heritage Run’ a big success.`Go Heritage Run’ organised at the district headquarters on Sunday promoting Kakatiya heritage, art and culture, witnessed an overwhelming response from the public.
Warangal: `Go Heritage Run’ organised at the district headquarters on Sunday promoting Kakatiya heritage, art and culture, witnessed an overwhelming response from the public. Hundreds of young and aged persons participated in the run. A total of 175 outstation persons registered for the run. It was flagged off by the District Collector Vakati Karuna, Superintendent of Police Ambar Kishor Jha and Warangal Municipal commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmed at Warangal Fort.
The officials have also joined the runners. Go Heritage Run was conducted by Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) Warangal chapter in association with Kakatiya Heritage Trust and GoUNESCO. The event was supported by Kapil Chits, Telangana Tourism, Archaeological Survey of India and State Archaeology Department, Hyderabad Runners and Andhra Bank.
The starting point for the run was Khushmahal at Warangal Fort in Warangal. The run was held in three categories 5 km, 16 km and 21 km (half marathon). The run was organised from the fort to 1000 pillar temple. All the finishers were presented a certificate and a medal made with Cheriyal painting, a unique art form from Telangana, informed the INTACH Warangal chapter convener Prof. M Panduranga Rao. The event holds great significance as Warangal was on the provisional list of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation’s (UNESCO) list of World Heritage sites, he added.
It might be noted that the district was also included among the 12 cities identified by the Central government to implement its ambitious Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) where heritage sites would restored and revived to attract tourists.Prof. Panduranga Rao thanked the management of Kapil Chits for its generous support to the event. ‘They helped us a lot both in terms of providing manpower and extending financial assistance,’ he added. The event organisers M Ajay Reddy, P Anuradha Reddy and others were present.
