Hyderabad: Property worth Rs 10 lakh was gutted when a major fire broke out at an electrical sub-station in Kalyan Nagar on Monday evening. However, no casualties have been reported. According to Sanathnagar fire officer, MA Shareef, they received a call around 5 pm about a fire mishap at Erragadda sub-station located in Kalyan Nagar.

Initially, two fire tenders from Sanathnagar and Kukatpally were rushed to the spot and battled for a couple of hours to douse the flames. But as fire began to spread, one more fire tender from Secunderabad fire station joined the operation and fought for another hour.

“The sub-station houses more than 100 cable drums (160 KW of 120 meters) supplied by Vijay Electricals, out of which four cable drums were completely reduced to ashes. We managed to salvage the remaining drums worth crores of rupees,” said Shareef, adding that carelessly discarded cigarette butt could be the reason which triggered the fire in the garbage heaps nearby.The timely action taken by the police and Fire Rescue Services prevented spread of fire.
