Hyderabad: After failing to improve the standards in the engineering colleges, the managements of the disaffiliated colleges now want to cut down on the student intake for getting affiliation for the academic year 2015-16. These were the colleges that were disaffiliated by the Jawaharalal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad (JNTU-H) for failing to improve infrastructure and quality faculty.

The college managements have knocked at the doors of the JNTU to accord affiliation either by cancelling the courses or by reducing the number of seats. JNTU Registrar Prof NV Ramana Rao informed that 120 colleges came forward for closure courses, 118 colleges for reducing the intake and 12 for the complete closure of the college. Majority of the colleges, which approached the university, do not want to continue Mechanical, IT and EEE courses from the next academic year as there were no takers.

“We are considering the proposal put by the engineering colleges. About 42,000 seats will be reduced in the next academic year,” he added. The registrar made it clear that reducing seats alone would not be taken into consideration for granting affiliation. “Affiliation will be given only if colleges meet the university norms. The inspection will begin in May,” he added.
