Hyderabad: Causing a big embarrassment to the Telangana government, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has out-rightly rejected the proposal of setting up new government polytechnic colleges in the State. It may be recalled that the government had sought permission from the AICTE for setting up six polytechnic colleges i.e. two each in Hyderabad and Warangal, and one each in Karimnagar and Nalgonda districts.

However, the council rejected as they did not fulfill the norms prescribed by it. An official of AICTE informed that the government did not furnish enough details regarding the new colleges. “Leave about the buildings, some colleges does not even have lands. Some buildings are under construction. As a result we have denied permissions,” official added.

With denial for permission, now the Telangana government has re-appealed to the AICTE and is using its good offices in Ministry of Human Resource Development for an approval. According to a senior official of the Commissionerate of Technical Education, only two out of six colleges are likely to get a nod from the granting body. “New polytechnic colleges in Cheriyal-Warangal and Nagarjuna Sagar- Nalgonda are likely to get permission,” the official opined.
