RTC Vice-chairman and Managing Director N. Sambasiva Rao has decided to make yet another attempt to prevent strike by the employees. He has called the union leaders for fresh talks on Monday.

However, both the employees’ unions of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have made it clear that release of Rs 18 crore one-time increment by the Telangana government to the 58,770 employees of TSRTC would in no way prevent them from going on strike come May 6. TMU General Secretary E Ashwatthama Reddy told The Hans India: “What was promised to us earlier was met.
A GO was issued releasing Rs18 crore per annum as a special increment to Telangana employees. But the strike call remains and we will go on strike from May 6.” On his part, EU Deputy General Secretary P Damodar Rao said there was no need to attach great significance to the meeting called by the MD. “In fact, a majority of the Union leaders are touring districts mobilising the workers for the May 6 strike. Two or three leaders from each Union available in Hyderabad will attend the meeting called by the MD,” he said.
The talks called by the MD came as a silver lining. It may be recalled that after the failure of talks, the Unions declared strike from May 6 if there is no breakthrough by April 30. Speaking separately with this correspondent, Damodar Rao and Ashwatthama Reddy made it clear that there is no connection whatsoever, between a decision on fitment and bifurcation of APSRTC.
