Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday urged Union Power Minister Peeyush Goel to take initiative to allocate adequate coal to Telangana enabling the government to set up a new thermal power plant besides speedy completion of transmission corridor construction connecting Northern Grid and Southern Grid.

The Union Minister called on Chandrasekhar Rao at his camp office and promised to take initiative on the formers’ demands. He offered related letters of coal allocations and new lines for power transmission. Also he sent letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on power needs.

Goel appreciated the efforts of the Chief Minister for avoiding power cuts in one year and preparing plans for producing 2500 mw solar power. As part of making Telangana a surplus State in power sector, the Chief Minister informed the Union Minister about the initiatives being taken which needed the Central boost. To this Goel agreed to offer necessary cooperation.

Chandrasekhar Rao apprised that they signed an agreement to get 1,000 mw power from Chhattisgarh and would need similar quantity in future for which transmission lines are essential. He also emphasised the need for speedy completion of 765 KV lines through Vardha-Nizamabad- Hyderabad, Angul-Palasa-Vemagiri- Khammam- Hyderabad and Varora-Warangal lanes.
