  • TJAC chief wants 100 percent transparency and accountability in the project implementation

Hyderabad: Communist Party of India, Telangana unit along with TJAC leader Prof. Kodandaram and other leaders on Thursday demanded the government to convene an all-party meet on the prestigious Water Grid project.

Speaking at a round-table conference, the leaders said "the entire project works have been handed over to three major contractors from both the sibling states. About Rs 30,000 crore project works has been allotted to a single contractor. Among the three contractors, two contractors sponsored for agitations against separate Telangana," they added.

CPI state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy criticised CM KCR for his unilateral decision on a project which costs over Rs 42,000 crore which is 40% of the state budget. "Initially, the project began with Rs 25,000 crore. Now the amount has increased to Rs.42,000 leaving everyone confused.

The projects which were announced by the erstwhile governments, were in their final stage of work but they have been halted due to the change of the government. Now, the government has announced as many as 26 new water schemes without completing the old projects" he said.

Prof. Kodandaram, said though the water grid scheme is a good initiative by the government, it should be implemented with 100 per cent transparency and accountability. He also demanded the government to grant the projects to small contractors in the respective mandals.

The TJAC chairman advised the government to provide equal opportunity to all the sections instead of handing over to the corporates. While Mallepalli Lakshmaiah, JAC co-convener, found fault with the government for not seeking the public opinion before announcing such huge project.

He felt that a detailed survey should be conducted and planned according to the topography of the region. Meanwhile, JAC member Ahmed Mohammad Khan,Advocate Rajender, retired engineer Ramesh Reddy and other leaders raised several objections and demanded the government to release blue print on the project.
